I tried to talk with some gays during the Christmas break, but when I called my two gay friends and told them I need their help on doing my project, they refused in a very proper way. I know they are uncomfortable when people see them is a special community, actually maybe my words made them to feel that, but I really didn't mean to do that. Fortunately my boyfriend helped me to contact with two gay friends, and they accepted my interview. Although I got some information from them, it will still be a tough project to approach, so changing subject is a good idea.
This time I would like to try something easier to get approach and interesting. Thought about my interests, culture, food, psychology and social issues, the first two seem like much relaxing than the latter two, but tackling social issues via design creation definitely is my passion.
So gave some thoughts on my interests, I prefer food and social issues to the other two, so I did some research on the field of food and what are the urgent and main social issues in Scotland.
For me the key point is whatever I do it's important to find out what is the main problem in a topic/field. So it's easy to come up ideas about the relationship between food and healthy issues.
From my analysis, I found problems are mainly exist in food eating and consumption aspects, such as bad eating habit, including eating unhealthy/junk food, eating disorder, and innutrition; in food consumption, the main problem is consumers' fear on consuming the sick meat and food which contains toxic additive, such as Mad Cow, PRRS (a disease happened on pigs), H5N1 (a disease happened on chicken and birds), Sudan I (usually added to Ketchup and Tabasco), Malachite Green and so on.
Usually when people heard an animal disease coming out, or some chemical additive have been checked out, they began to worry and refused to purchase all the meat (beef for example) and products (Ketchup for instance). However, not all the meat/products are polluted, most of them are healthy and reliable to eat, but people's fear influenced the consumption of the similar products in the market. There are several cases which the food company went bankrupt under the influence of the food pollution.
So I came out a couple of ideas which related to these problems in food market:
1. How can design help people to build up a healthy eating habit?
2. How might design encourage people to purchase healthy food which under the influence of the food pollution?
For the second question, I assumed packaging design is one of the solutions, because good packaging design may influence people's consuming desire. Following is an example of a banana company from Australia:

The simple colorful wax below bananas brings great selling to this company. So food package design maybe a choice for my questions.
